These equipments were delisted by the FMCSA owing to its makers’ inability to satisfy the minimum stipulations as provided in 49 CFR part 395, subpart B, appendix A.

What this Means For Motor Carriers

If you or your drivers are currently running any of these revoked ELDs, then you need to act now. Here's what the FMCSA recommends:Here's what the FMCSA recommends:

1. Stop Using the Revoked ELDs: You have to cease their use immediately Certain electronics can pose risks to the body hence require immediate removal from use. However, in their absence, continue using paper logs or you can use a logging application that will assist you in keeping a record of HOS before you can get a proper ELD.

2. Replace the Revoked ELDs: It means that before September 21, 2024, users will have to transition to any of the ELDs on the Registered Devices list approved by FMCSA. That is, if the companies behind the revoked devices address the problems, their devices can be unrevoked, but the outcome is uncertain. Until then replacement is inevitable.

Carriers have been afforded a 60-day grace period within which they are required to effect the above changes by the FMCSA. Authorities and enforcers have been directed not to ticket those drivers who have not installed an ELD during this period, as long as the said drivers can present paper logs or logging software to them. Nevertheless, if a driver obtained use of a revoked device after the deadline, he or she is considered as using an ELD, and could be cited and placed out of service.

After what can happen on September 21

Thus, if the carriers continue using these revoked devices after September 21, they may be cited for the non-compliance and DWB drivers may be placed out of service. These guidelines have been provided by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) hence it is important for you to take necessary measures today to avert inconvenience to your business.
